What if Atlantis was a colony of aliens here on Earth!
_________________________________________________
Consider this . . .
What if Atlantis actually was a civilization which existed thousands of years ago! But it was even more advanced than we are today . . . because it was a colony established by a highly advanced alien civilization!
The cities they built on a previous "mid-Atlantic continent" were gleaming structures worthy of such an intelligent race.
The location was isolated from both the American and European continents, so they were safe from the primitive humans who were growing in population around the globe for thousands of years.
But as the Greeks and the Romans began to explore the world in larger and larger ships, the Atlanteans became concerned that their mid-Atlantic land mass would be discovered.
During this period, the Atlantean scientists made a terrifying discovery!
The Earth would soon experience a global upheaval, and their mid-Atlantic land mass was in danger of sinking beneath the surface of the ocean during a cataclysmic event!
Obviously, this was the source of the Biblical Flood myth.
Utilizing their advanced science, they began working to protect their entire civilization from this global disaster. Faced with the threat that everything they had accomplished during their rich history would be destroyed by the upcoming planet-wide disaster, they considered the options they had.
They considered trying to salvage what they could and flee to a new location on some continent which might survive the apocalypse. But that would mean they'd end up in a region surrounded by primitive civilizations. They would constantly have to defend themselves!
However, they knew that if they did this, their advanced technology would be both coveted and feared by the people of these primitive cultures. They would eventually attract the attention of every civilization on Earth, all of whom would want to conquer them to steal the “magical” treasures the Atlanteans possessed.
This meant the Atlanteans faced the prospect of having to use their advanced weapons to wipe out millions of attackers — over and over again.
This idea was repugnant to these intelligent, peaceful aliens. But the second choice seemed impossible! How could they save the entire continent of Atlantis (and all it possessed) from the impending disaster?
For thousands of years they had relied on the vastness of the Atlantic ocean surrounding their continent to shield them from the less advanced civilizations.
The Atlantean scientist knew that the sea floor in the middle of the Atlantic would drop down to a drastically lower elevation, causing the Atlantic ocean to rush in from all sides and drown their entire civilization.
Preventing this geological disaster was not within their power. But they finally decided on a bold and amazing plan to save Atlantis . . . by hiding it on the floor of the ocean!
Desperate to save their civilization, their culture, and their scientific knowledge, the Atlanteans developed a powerful force field that was capable of bonding together a large section of their beloved continent during the violent earthquakes which would tear apart the entire land mass.
They also created gigantic domes which were made of an incredibly strong material called “crystalsteel” — a metal with atoms which formed a matrix similar to the structure of diamonds — although crystalsteel was many times stronger.
Fortunately, prior to the final “locking” of its atomic matrix, crystalsteel could be shaped like a metal. And it was actually lighter than aluminum, making it an incredibly useful material.
When the global disaster finally struck, the force field that bonded the land mass together during the cataclysm prevented the main portion of the continent from breaking up and destroying the Atlantean civilization.
The huge domes the Atlanteans erected over their cities — as well as portions of the agricultural areas — were all in place long before the global cataclysm devastated the Earth.
And so, when the global catastrophe struck, the entire continent of Atlantis sank beneath the Atlantic Ocean — even though the force field held the landmass together as it sank, and the domed cities were protected from the rising sea water.
The undulating surface of the Earth eventually settled into a new shape, a process that took several days.
Eventually the Atlanteans went to work adapting their civilization to their new sub-surface environment.
As the centuries passed, they expanded their infrastructure in ways they couldn't have been done until the continent was fully submerged and the seafloor was stable.
This undersea "continent" was now part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the mountain range that borders the Mariana Trench which causes the sea-floor spreading.
And so . . . Atlantis still resides today!
It was shielded from the savagery of mankind in the days before Atlantis sank beneath the waves — and now it's shielded from the savage and technologically advanced civilizations that eventually emerged on the Earth’s surface!
But can these noble and intelligent aliens continue to remain hidden from the insane and brutal world in which we live today?
If they fail to do so, the aggressive nations who now populate the Earth will wage a third global war to acquire the technological treasures which Atlantis has developed over thousands of years!
Guys, I have no idea how this exciting new story concept should progress. Hell, I just made up today! Can any of you guys suggest what happens next? _________________ ____________

Pow, posted an idea similar to the one above in the thread for Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea in this new forum, and I suddenly remembered the post I'd made above, way back on June 14th of this year!
Unfortunately that thread had no replies after five months, so today I moved it here in hopes that it would finally attract some interest.
I'm sure Pow will enjoy it, since he had a similar idea and some excellent thoughts on the subject! _________________ ____________

Here"s Pow's well-written post, in which he had a similar idea about the survival of Atlantis.
Making it an ongoing story arc in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is plum brilliant!

The hydrofoils look terrific, Bruce, and the idea of having a Seaview that can travel much faster because of them would give the sub the ability to get around quicker for certain stories where its speed would be imperative to the plotline.
One story idea I've had would be the Seaview discovering and confirming the existence of Atlantis. In this story they find that certain sections of the mythological continent were able to survive the sinking via fantastic technology.
Generations of Atlantians have flourished over the centuries.
Now, with the assistance of the crew of the Seaview, these Atlantians are able to rejoin the surface world. However, is that what the surface civilizations desire? What are the political, environmental, military considerations? Does Admiral Nelson have the right to make that decision for the rest of the world?
______________________________________________
One possible way to handle Pow's concept would be to have the Seaview crew promise to protect Atlantis and not reveal it's existence until the Atlantians decided the time was right.
Just imagine the great special effects scenes the show could give us!
In return, the Atlantians would share aspects of their advanced technology with Admiral Nelson and his officers. The amazing submarine would receive new capabilities, such as the hydrofoils I added in the post above.
As this multi-episode story arc progressed, Pow's suggestion about the Atlantians joining the surface world would come into play. _________________ ____________
