Youtube has all 15 chapters of this theatrical serial based on the popular live television series. The picture and sound quality are much better than the TV series, and short portions of some chapters seem to have used much better segments of film to create the complete episode.
Enjoy yourselves, my fellow Video Rangers!

Looks like a ripoff of The Phantom. _________________ ...or not...

As a long time serial buff I have to admit that most of them are not so great! There is a lot of repitition and viewed as all chapters together there is a lot of slow spots too! The few that have been edited down to movie length are much more watchable.
HOWEVER, In my humble opinion these are the BEST of the genre :
ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL
SPY SMASHER
THE MASKED MARVEL
ALL OF THE ROCKETMAN SERIALS
SUPERMAN
ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN
BATMAN
BATMAN AND ROBIN
ADVENTURES OF NYOKA
FLASH GORDON
BUCK ROGERS
That's just my opinion and I know that it's not everyones cup O' tea.
Remember that these were designed to be shown in weekly increments so they did not overkill your senses. |

Wow, Gord, that's a great list of serials. Thanks for the recommendations.
By they way, when are you and I going to get back to chatting while watching Space Patrol? Do you still have your DVDs? If not, here's a YouTube link that has 89 of the 129 episodes the made.

Wikipedia: The Adventures of Captain Africa was conceived and filmed as a sequel to The Phantom (Tom Tyler) movie serial.
Well into production, Columbia Pictures found out that its screen rights to The Phantom comic strip had expired.
King Features who distributed the comic strip wanted more money for the screen rights than producer Sam Katzman was willing to spend, negotiations broke down.
Rewrites to the script and new scenes were added to change the character from the Phantom to Captain Africa (John Hart), now with an amended costume.

Trivia: John Hart guest starred as a forest ranger on the episode of Leave It To Beaver, "A Night in the Woods." |
