Thinking Outside the "Plot"!

~ A Question for the Members: If we assumed that David did NOT just dream the whole thing (as the British version of the film does), would Earth still be in danger from a Martian invasion after winning the first battle with the aliens?

~ My Theory: The Wikipedia synopsis of the plot includes the concept put forth by Arthur Franz's astronomer character, which states that the saucer in the sand pit is the vanguard of an invasion from the planet Mars, and their fleet is now in close orbital proximity to Earth.

The Martians are taking control of various humans to sabotage the rocket which is being built at a research facility nearby. The Martians also want to assassinate certain personnel who are vital to the project.





Franz describes the theory that the Martian civilization is housed in great underground cities and huge spaceships which cruise throughout the solar system.

But the Martians are concerned by the progress of mankind's space program, which they feel will endanger their fragile civilization.

So, the covert mission of the Martian saucer is to reduce mankind's spacefaring potential and then begin a full scale invasion by attacking us from space with weapons fired from the ships in orbit around the Earth.

Assuming that all this is true, the victory we achieved in the movie by destroying the saucer in the sand pit would only be the first battle in a full scale war! The nations of Earth would have to unit in a common cause and defend our planet against these invaders who hope to make our planet their new (and more hospitable) home.
