Here's the link to Archive.org's copy of this movie.

Great Planet War: The War in Space

The space effects are lousy (lots of shaky little spaceships on strings, zipping past the camera). But the sets are good, and I was impressed with the dubbing.

This came out the same year as Star Wars. One of the reasons why that movie dazzled the world was the fact that the space scenes didn't insult the audience's intelligence.

However, this Japanese movie does feature a Biker Bitch Princess Leia and a horny Chewbacca! Cool

And by the way, I wish somebody would explain to me why reading subtitles is supposed be better than English language dubbing. Heck, they're both translations of the foreign language dialog, right?

With dubbing, I can watch the movie . . . not just sit there struggling to read the subtitles before they vanish. Rolling Eyes

That image has nothing to do with the movie.

For those interested, Bud and I discussed subtitles v. dubbing over here.

We did indeed, and my reply was to thank Maurice for making me more aware of how complex the issue can be — not the simple matter I stated above.

I just wish I could manage to enjoy subtitles as well as Maurice and the many other folks who prefer them to dubbing.

Thanks again, Maurice. Very Happy

Henry, you're my hero! Very Happy

I've been bitchiin' for years on All Sci-Fi that I had trouble with subtitles because I couldn't read the text fast enough to keep up with the action! Sad

Poor, pitiful me had no idea that some DVDs were running the films faster than they should — and causing me to struggle with the subtitles while I tried to keep up.

The folks who prefer subtitles to dubbing insist that they'd rather hear the original dialog while they read the subtitles.

But I've often stated that I wish I could hear the words spoken in English, so I didn't have to keep missing the movie while I stared at the text on the bottom of the screen . . . Rolling Eyes

Anyway, thanks for enlightening me, sir! :Very Happy
