This is another of my claymation films from the 1960s. You'll be impressed, no doubt, by the expensive props and sets. And yes, the monster's eyes are ball bearings. That makes him a genuine steely-eyed monster. The hero should have been steely-eyed, too, but his head was too small.
And now, click and behold . . . .

How long did it take to make that? How'd you make it? I like the ball bearing eyes and the monster's claw hands. _________________ The Giant Giant Monster Movie List |

Thank you!
How long did it take? Probably several hours, but since I did it 50 years ago, I'm just guessing.
How did I make it? With my father's Minolta 8mm camera, shooting one frame at a time as I posed the little clay figures -- just like Mr. Harryhausen does.
I made much more detailed clay monsters when I was a kid, but I never put details on the ones I animated because handling them just mushed up the surface, and moving the limbs caused them to come apart, so they had to be repaired often.
Seen the other animation movies yet? I'm sorry I couldn't separate the animation from the junk that was on the reel with them, but the whole thing isn't very long.

Not yet, I tend to pop in, read a few things, and then slip back into the void. I'll be sure to watch them all at some point, I love stop motion monsters. _________________ The Giant Giant Monster Movie List |

Well, folks, right there's the whole problem with All Sci-Fi.
Doctor Kaiju said he'd be sure to watch the other animation videos "at some point" — but that was seven years ago, and he hasn't been back since, after 14 total posts.
The tragic fact is that message boards require members who can express themselves in written form — and by that, I do NOT mean those half-literate "text" that have robbed people of their literacy!
All Sci-Fi has 149 registers users— but only 50 of them have ever made more than two dozen posts. Only 25 have made more than a 100.
Just for the record, I've made almost half of the TOTAL number of the posts — 34,982.
Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed ever minute of it. But I'd enjoy it even more if we had more post by the rest of our members.
Hey, it's not a chore for me, guys. It's a joy!
But if some of you other guys see it as a chore, I fell sorry for you. As science fiction fans, using your imagination and creative skills is supposed to be fun. If it isn't, you should try adjusting your attitude . . . and do what I do.

I missed these before. Thanks for sharing them!
I am assuming you didn't employ any sorts of armatures in these clay thespians. How did you accomplish the laser beams... or whatever those were?
Honestly, I think it was a mistake putting these shorts in three separate topics, because that spreads out any potential discussion instead of centralizing it. Why not one "Bud's Stop Motion Adventures"?
I have some bits of surviving 8mm stop motion that a friend and I did circa 1978 that I should post somewhere. _________________ * * *

Thanks for the kind words, Maurice!
Claymation does not, of course, use armatures because they would tear through the clay during the movements of the models. But clay figures are pliable enough to he animated, even though they can't have surface details because the animator's hands would cause such details to quickly erode.
That's why my figures are so simple and featureless.
Thanks for the suggestion about a central thread! Please feel free to comment on any of the videos in any of the threads, regardless of which videos is the "featured short". _________________ ____________

Boy oh boy do I feel you on that Bud.
I too used to have a fairly large forum years back (2500+ members), and it seemed as if once Social Media (Facebook, MySpace, etc) took off, member participation dropped to almost nothing.
Folks have become accustomed to clicking a simple "Like" button, or if they did reply, it was all "text talk"...or in other words, borderline illiterate gibberish masked as writing.
I am glad to see that All Sci-Fi is still up and going, and at least has some participation. I long ago abandoned my own forum because I wasn't even getting that after a while. Just visitors, no participants.
Frustrating as all get-up. _________________ "You look like a pooped out pinwheel."

Well, I guess I shouldn't complain about having 177 members — but only a few who actually post.
And yet, our few active members consistently add intelligent and well written comments — like yours., Wade!
That's why I've kept All Sci-Fi going for 18 years, even though it's crashed six times. <— link _________________ ____________
