While visiting my family in Atlanta from June 15th to June 19th I had fun teaching my grandson how to use Paint.net and MS Paint on an extra laptop I took with me and gave to him.
He's an avid gamer, and he was delighted to learn he could make screen grabs from video games and modify them with the two applications.
For example, we started with this screen grab from the trailer for Final Fantasy XIV —
— and turned it into this.
I was in granddaddy heaven watching this talented 10 year old enjoy the same sort of creative endeavors I spend hours doing for projects like the illustrations for The Wishbone Express and The Hero Experience. _________________ ____________

As a former Commercial Graphic Artist, I can attest to the fun of teaching others the enjoyment of learning design/paint programs, and sparking ones inner creativity.
I am a Phototshop & Illustrator user mostly, but there are a lot of other programs out there to help spark ones creativity, like those you mentioned. _________________ "You look like a pooped out pinwheel."

Despite the fact that I use Paint.net to accomplish a wealth of wonderful enhancements to the jpegs I post on All Sci-Fi, I'm only familiar with a small percentage of it's amazing features.
Every now and then I'll click on the wrong function at the top of the screen and accidentally do something to the image that startles me! Then I have to figure out how UNDO it before I can proceed
Here's an example of what Paint.net can do. I made the poster below take a nice photo of a drive-in theater, then brightening it and enhancing the color.
Next I modified the simple screen at the front of the theater by painting in an elaborate structure around it to make it larger and fancier.
Then I put a screen grab from Forbidden Planet on the movie screen, along with an image of the C-57-D in the night sky.
Finally, I included all the text which promoted ASF’s Friday & Saturday Night Chats (<— link)
.
I did all this to promote our "virtual drive-in theater" on Saturday's. Here's the schedule for this weeks features. We only have four regular chatters, and we'd love to have more members of All Sci-Fi join us!

REMEMBER, FOLKS!
All Sci-Fi's Chatzy Room (< — LINK) now requires a simple password to enter, just to keep out the strangers who have wandered in from time to time!
The password is . . . allscifi.

The starting time for the Friday and Saturday chats is 7:00 pm EST, which is 4:00 PST for West Coast members.
Here's the schedule for ASF’s Friday & Saturday Night Chats on 10/4 & 5.
To get this week's movies, just click on the titles below after the link becomes active, then click on the Download button when the WeTransfer window opens. The movie will be saved in your download file!

And we hope you'll join us tomorrow night for our specially selected features at the All Sci-Fi Drive~In Theater.
The movies include a second Jules Verne adventure to follow Friday's epic tale of subterranean exploration!
~ Below you'll find the Drive-in greeting, the "coming attraction", the cartoon, the first feature, the intermission, and the second feature.
Guys, if you put all six downloads into a new empty folder in your dowload file, you can keep the folder open in a separate tab and quickly access it to start each video in succession.
In fact, with some players the videos will automatically play in succession, (based on their prefix numbers) as soon as you start the first one.
That way you'll only have to start playing your "drive-in experience" at the Welcome video, and everything else will follow — with no interruptions!
Phantom and I do it this way, and it works like a charm!
