From NBC press release: Following a series of space attacks, the Enterprise captures its adversary, a cylinder containing a voice that announces itself as Nomad, in "The Changeling" on NBC Television Network's colorcast of Star Trek this evening at 8:30 p.m.

Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), after correlating all information, determines that Nomad is the space probe launched from Earth in the year 2002. The cylinder reveals that it was sent to probe for biological impurities and destroy all that is not perfect. When Nomad kills Scott (James Doohan), then brings him back to life, and erases the memory of Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), Captain Kirk (William Shatner) devises a plan to destroy the cylinder.
