Rarely seen all-black feature from a script by Spencer Wiliams, Jr. (Andy of "The Amos and Andy Show") about an "apeman" (very unimaginative makeup) who kidnaps a bride and takes her to his basement.
(His basement?)
Right.
He lives in the city, wears clothes, and looks entirely human from the neck down. Played entirely for laughs, but there aren't many. Directed by Richard C. Kahn. _________________ ____________

I'm tempted to watch this movie. The poster is so cool, and this is billed as "the first Black sci-fi / horror film".

IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.
________________________________
~ The character of the rich Dr. Helen Jackson (played by Laura Bowman) is inspired by real-life millionaire miser Hettie Green(1834-1916)
Note from me: Does anybody even use the "miser" anymore? Or is the species extinct, so to speak?
~ The title is a take-off on the notorious film Ingagi (1930) that was made nearly a decade earlier. This is believed to be the only horror film with, what was then called, an "all colored cast."
Note from me: I hope I won't offend anybody by making a humorous comment concerning the ironic fact that a movie which is NOT filmed in color and has both white and black actors is a "black & white" movie . . . while a Technicolor movie with an all-white cast is a "color" movie!
Merely a mildly funny coincidence.
~ Dr Jackson calls her assistant "N'Gina", a name which means "One who serves" in the Kikuyu language spoken in Kenya.
Note from me: So, the screenwriter paid a subtle tribute to the fact that black actors are "African Americans", a term which entered into usage in 1988 when the Rev. Jesse Jackson held a news conference and urged Americans to use it when referring to blacks.
~ The $5 that the doctor paid her attorney to write her will in this 1940 film is equivalent to $95.38 in 2021 dollars.
Note from me: Even so, that's cheap for a will. Mine costed me several hundred dollars! _________________ ____________
