Yes, there is a video about a nifty little way to making regular aluminum transparent right in your own home, and it starts out with a clip from Star Trek: The Voyage Home, showing Scotty and Bones talking to an amazed 20th century industrialist about a new and amazing futuristic material — transparent aluminum.

However, the video below is about the actual material shown above, called transparent Spinel aluminum, and it too mentions Star Trek prominently. This stuff is not only transparent, it's said to be "far better than bulletproof glass."
