After a very disappoint first film, this TNG feature is a rousing success.
The story is superb, the new Enterprise is gorgeous, and the special effects are flawless. The film has just enough drama and just enough humor to be a recipe for success, as they say.
The characters all have their own dramatic and comedic moments in a fast-past story that builds on story elements established in the series. No messin' around makin' up stuff we never heard of before.
For the record, I like "Insurrection" just as much as this one. Two very different stories that both fit right in with the Star Trek universe on every level. By the time this movie came out, that was a pleasant surprise. _________________ ____________

Yeah, its a fun, entertaining movie, Bud.
However, it does the same thing that the equally fun & entertaining ST:The Voyage Home. It takes that established fact based upon the ST Universe that anything we do in a past era (via time travel) can create disastrous results in the present & pretty much throws it out the window.
That Sovereign Class Enterprise is a magnificent design to behold I must say. |

I'm not sure I understand your statement. In "First Contact" the Enterprise crew discovered that the Borg went back in time and assimilated Earth's population.
But the Enterprise went back and interfered with that event in the past, preventing it from happening.
In other words, the Borg went back in time and did something that caused "disastrous results", and then the Enterprise went back and stopped the Borg, changing the fate of Earth back to what it was before the Borg interfered.

(1.) The Enterprise crew revealed Cochran's place in history. That alone can alter events.
(2.) They revealed the future to he & his assistant. She got a tour of the big E.
(3.) By going back in time would not the deaths of any crewmen by the Borg affect their current era?
(4.) By guiding Cochran in the development of warp drive is that not going to impact history.
(5.) Riker & Geordi go along for the ride in Cochram's ship? However, maybe Cochram required their help in place of his assistant being on board the E.
I know that some of these events appear as little changes or alterations, Bud, but isn't the devil in the details as they say? |

All absolutely correct.
But the alternative was to take no action and leave all of mankind as part of the Borg collective.
I'm certainly not saying they went into the past and set everything back to exactly the way it had been before. They did what they had to do, and whatever changes occurred (as you so clearly described) were unavoidable.
As I mentioned in my reply to your post under Time Travelers (1975 TV movie) --
"Brother, you nailed it when you pointed out that one problem with time travel stories is dealing with the consequences of altering the cause, which in turned changes the effects."
I'm still puzzled, however, about why you said this:

When the Enterprise got back to the present (after the movie was over), the crew would have to deal with changes in the universe caused by the events they were part of the past (dead crewmen, influences on Cochran and company, etc.).
Hopefully the new timeline would be roughly like it was before, but there's no guarantees on that count. And just about anything would be better than having all the people on your "Friends and Family Plan" look like this!

Okay enough talk about time paradoxes.
How about Alice Krige as the Borg Queen? Head and shoulders, the sexiest borg we'd ever encountered up until Seven of Nine came along.
I loved her seduction scenes with Data.

I liked First Contact a lot! The new look Borg were quite scary and more in line with the animated dead beings they are meant to be than the white faced guys wearing black plastic as seen in TNG (I loved them though).
Does anyone here see a similarity between the Borg and the Cenobites of the Hellraiser franchise?

As a fan of the Hellraiser franchise I definitely agree! As to time travel go to Wendall Chung's site Atomic Rockets http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/index.php and read about the different theories of time travel. In fact, the entire site is a mass of valuable info for BUDing (pun intended) writers! _________________ Common Sense ISN'T Common |
