I give it a 5 out of 10. It does poorly during the third act, but the protagonist is likeable.

Gentlemen, I just watched the trailer for Big Ass Spider.
I shall be indisposed for the next two hours while I watch this movie. Please hold all my calls.

This highly imaginative and entertaining movie is a perfect example of why the old Hollywood studio system couldn't survive when movie audiences went from the Leave it to Beaver era to the All in the Family age of a rebellious society.
The times they were a changin' . . .
The stuffed shirts who sat in big Hollywood offices and passed judgement on the proposed film projects presented to them (while they gradually fossilizing in their expensive leather chairs) were incapable of appreciating the merits of radically new concepts! 
It took the next generation of filmmakers to pump new life into the genre we all love.
