While watching Tremors (again) on this sunny afternoon in April, it occurred to me that there was a way we could explain the manner in which the Graboids moved so quickly through the hard-packed ground of the desert.
It's obvious that any physical manner of propulsion — like the arraignment of black thorn-like projections we're shown all around the bodies of the graboids — couldn't possibly propel those big creatures through the solid ground at the speed we see in the movie.
So, how did the graboids travel like a bat-outta-hell through solid ground, faster than a grown person could run?
The only explanation I can think of is a form of telekinesis that allows the creatures to physically "movie the dirt out of their way" as they move through it.
In other words, they create open tunnels ahead of them which their thorn-like projections propel them through at a high rate of speed! And these tunnels collapse behind them after the go past!
What to you guys think? Have I solved the problem? _________________ ____________

Writers S.S. Wilson & Brent Maddock based the desert town of Perfection, Nevada in the film on the real town of Darwin, California that had visited. It was a barren ex-mining town with a population of 32.
Their title of "Land Sharks" was similar to the popular Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name. They then changed it to "Beneath Perfection," before settling upon "Tremors."
Before shooting of "Tremors," Kevin Bacon felt that his film career was at an all time low. "I broke down and fell to the sidewalk, screaming to my pregnant wife (Kyra Sedgwick), 'I can't believe I'm doing a movie about underground worms!' Bacon would later recall the filming of "Tremors" to be "the single most fun time I've had making a movie in my entire career." |

This does explain how the creatures movied so fast and why one of them slammed into the concrete wall and died. |

I love everything about this movie...the story, the characters, the Graboids, everything. I purchased the digital copy from Amazon, and I watch it every now and then and always enjoy it.
Just good, fun escapism at its finest. _________________ "You look like a pooped out pinwheel."
