I'm a huge Lesley Gore fan and I posted some of her music on page 1 of this thread. When I heard that she had died, my immediate thought was lung cancer. Even 30 years ago, it was obvious that her voice was weak and she sounded winded. I can remember seeing her on TV in the 1980's and thinking, "That sounds like a girl who has been smoking too many cigarettes".
I posted this elsewhere but here is Lesley at her absolute cutest. This performance can be seen in it's entirety in high definition thanks to the recent release of BATMAN on Blu-ray. When I got my BD set, this was the first scene I watched:

One of the comments posted to that video asks what movie it's from. I found the three actors I recognized (Dwayne Hickman, Frankie Avalon, Lesley Gore) all listed on IMDb for Ski Party (1965). Unfortunately, I can no longer sign in to my YouTube account to post a reply since YT switched over to using Google's universal sign-in.

Yeah, they're trying to get everyone to use Google for everything. But you can sign in to your YouTube account if you have a Google profile. That doesn't mean you have to use Google+ or Google's image hosting or any of their other stuff. |

Sadly, time marches on and it has not been kind to many of the actors in that scene with Lesley Gore.
The blonde haired young man on Lesley's left (screen right) is Aron Kincaid. He lied about being able to ski so that he could get that role. He died in 2011.
In front, to Lesley's right, is Yvonne Craig (who I had the pleasure of meeting in 2013) sitting beside Deborah Walley. Deborah Walley was in a number of "teenage" movies and TV shows during the 1960's. That includes a major role in BEACH BLANKET BINGO (of which the new Blu-ray has just shipped to me from amazon). Deborah died of throat cancer in 2001 at the age of 59.
At the back, also to Lesley's right is the spectacularly gorgeous blonde, 5' 10" Mary Hughes who also starred in many Beach Party flicks. She died of cancer in 2007 at age 63.
The number of actors who from the Beach Party series (Ski Party being part of the series) who have died before their time is shocking. Ironically, Don Rickles appeared in several of those movies and he's still kickin'. |

I thought the title was misspelled on the various YouTube video's I found . . . and even on the record label --
-- but it turns out that "bass" is pronounced like "base" when referring to low-frequency notes and instruments like bass drums. That's why the song Mr. Bass Man isn't about this guy!

Upon reflection, yeah, Bud obviously knows how it's spelled.
The trouble is that I've spent too much time on the internet and I've become used to bizarre spelling. I swear, there is a generation that thinks "prolly" is a real word. They are screwing with my brain  . |

Actually, I just sort of forgot it when I first looked up the song on Youtube. After all, it's not like "bass" is following the rules with that wacky spelling, right?
The correct spelling of a word pronounced "base" would have the silent "e" on the end, as in basement, baseball, and 3rd baseman for the Yankees.
A silent "e" means a long vowel sound comes before the consonant. Don't shoot me, guys -- I didn't make the rule, I just taught it to my students for 18 years. I assume your teachers did the same for you. 
Strictly speaking, the correct spelling for a word that starts with B and rhymes with "ass" is "bass". Like I said, I didn't make the rule . . .

BTW, in my rather substantial home video collection, I own only two collections of music videos - ABBA and THE BANGLES. Incredibly, Suzanna Hoffs and I are about the same age (some sources putting her a few months younger than me, some sources saying a few months older). Ah-ha. Identity confirmed.
~ When the driver turns on the radio, he twists the knob clockwise, which is normal. But when he turns off the radio, mid-way through the song, he also turns it clockwise, which is impossible. I compared the two shots -- and it isn't the same shot used twice. Curious.
