This is hard science fiction with a great concept, a solid cast, and an important message.

The concept deals with biochemistry and how it relates to human nutrition. The fine cast includes John Howard, Vera Miles, and Otto Kruger (from The Colossus of New York). And the important message is all about science solving the problem of world hunger before Soylent Green becomes the only item on the menu. Shocked

Kruger and company are secluded in a lonely Arizona lab where they've developed a synthetic nutrient that's so good a human can live on it without eating real food!

That's the good news . . .

_

The bad news is that once a person starts living on the nutrient, they can't eat real food any more. And their immune system becomes so weak they can't venture outside the lab without being infected and dying.

_

So, the story is all about the group's desperate efforts to find a way to correct their damaged physiology and perfect the nutrient so the world can enjoy the first truly "free lunch" in history!

This episode is a great example of how this series challenged the minds of its audience. Very Happy

This is the episode which was "rebooted" as TARANTULA (1955).

Hey, you're right! Definitely some similarities, and Tarantella was released eight months later — plenty of time for the writers of the movie (Robert M. Fresco and Martin Berkeley on the screenplay, and Jack Arnold with Mr. Fresco on the story) to adapt their work on No Food for Thought to Jack's monster movie.

Yep, that's right, folks — Jack Arnold wrote and directed this episode from Robert M. Fresco's screenplay!

I've been a big fan of this show since I was a kid. I watched this episode on youtube and loved it. It is a good science fiction story. Most people today would think it was dull, but the story is very intelligent.
