Got the box set for this series.

Fun to watch, almost like seeing a brand new show for me since I was not following TI when it was first broadcast. So its all fresh viewing to me.

I know, it was totally unrealistic that the aliens with their advanced tech could not eliminate David Vincent.

Beyond that though its a nifty sf show. It was reported by one of producer Quinn Martin's secretaries as the series that received more fan mail than any of his other shows. Including his terrific Fugitive series.

Always loved the design for the alien spaceships.

After the first few episodes the only thing I hung around for was in hopes of seeing another alien die in that characteristic (and evidence-eliminating) red glow.

Hey, in those days we were hard up for special effects.

I certainly love the area of Special/Visual FX.
Have many books on the subject, watched docus on 'em.

We are now in an age of FX where they can do absolutely anything on screen.

But we are now faced with the problem of writers relying on overwhelming FX to dazzle us & take the place of strong scripting, directing, acting.

Whereas back in the days of shows like TI they were unable to fall back on FX all the time. It motivated the writing to be better regarding plot as well as character development.

Couldn't agree more.

Bulldogtrekker and I both bought the DVDs of Science Fiction Theater, and we've been meeting on Facebook to watch episodes "together" by starting them when one of us types "go" after we pause the DVDs at the beginning of an episode.

Throughout the episodes we discuss what the story is about and what developments we find interesting. That show didn't have the money or the technical ability to do impressive FX, so it relied completely on great ideas, presented well.

That, to me, is what science fiction is all about. If a story doesn't give me something interesting to think about, it just wasted my time.

To this day, I still look at people's hands for that telltale alien sign of their unusable pinky finger.

We have seen 6 episodes so far and the episodes appear to be intelligent. Bud pointed out that it is much better than Land of the Giants.

I love this show, and I can't believe I waited all these years to watch it. I never really gave it a real chance, so I didn't realize just how good it was.

But after watching the first seven episodes, I'm very impressed. It just doesn't seem to be making the mistakes that other shows from the era did.

Amazon offers a box set of seasons 1 and 2 for about $40. But the box sets of seasons 1 and 2 separately are under $15 each — which means I can get them both for about $30.

Weird, eh? Very Happy
