If you’re not a Tom Cruise fan, you’re neglecting four of the best science fiction movies ever made. I AM a Tom Cruise fan, and in addition to the sci-fi movies listed below, I also love all the Mission: Impossible movies, Knight and Day, and many others.
His Mission: Impossible movies incorporate so many hi-tech concepts that are not yet “real” that I consider them to be science fiction as well.
My point is that Tom Cruise has dedicated his film career to some awesome films that show a strong respect for science fiction, and I have a great deal of admiration for him. Frankly, I think Tom is awesome.
The list of his great science fiction films include these.
Minority Report
War of the Worlds
Oblivion

Although not particularly a Cruise fan myself, I did enjoy all four of those sci-fi movies. _________________ ...or not...

Three out of four of these are top rate, although Cruise's work in all of them is excellent.
Minority Report - A good job in an interesting story.
War of the Worlds - While Cruise's performance is good, the story reeks of Spielburgian tropes. Too many changes to the original concepts and a confusing establishing of the changes. (Just WHEN were those tripods burried in the first place?)
Oblivion - Well designed and well acted by all. Great film!
Edge of Tomorrow - Much better than the title would seem. STARSHIP TROOPERS meets GROUNDHOG DAY ! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

Yes, that was my main choke point in the film, together with the aliens "beaming down" in the lightning. _________________ ...or not...

War of the worlds was at best a struggle and became a fail when the tripods began popping out of the ground. The tripods were all either buried in the dark of night across the world or some tens of thousands of years ago in anticipation of the day they were needed, just surprised that no one in the world have ever discovered them by then.
The other 3 were acceptable and might even bear watching again on a late night... |

Yes, 17 Oaks, the buried tripods and the "lightning bolt" Martian arrivals were bad ideas. _________________ ____________
