J.J. Abrams addresses problems with Star Trek Into Darkness and lens flares
BDT: I don't know why there is no thread for Star Trek Into Darkness - (2013); there is now
Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is very aware of the criticism some of his past films have received.
Abrams told late night host Stephen Colbert during a conversation at the Montclair Film Festival that he was aware Star Trek fans were upset with his second entry in the series, Star Trek Into Darkness, according to a report from Rolling Stone. Abrams confessed that even he thought the fans were absolutely right looking back on the film.
"There were too many nods to The Wrath of Khan," Abrams admitted. "I'll cop to that."
Abrams also addressed fan concerns that his infamous overuse of lens flares would appear in the new Star Wars movie.
The director promised Colbert, and the crowd in attendance, that he was going to "ease up" on the film editing tool. He said that while he could kind of defend the use of the flare in Star Trek, because space is "so bright," he had no excuse for the overuse of it in Super 8.
He neglected to address, however, if there would be at least a couple of lens flares used in the upcoming film, so fans will have to wait until the movie is released to know for sure.

The major problem with the film, besides the plot holes, is the overemphasis on action. |

I found this video of the end of Star Trek Into Darkness with Star Trek the Motion Picture end music. And we get to see the Enterprise go to warp speed. I like it.

BDT: I always thought the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan was great.
Disastrous movie castings-Looper
Take the character of Khan Noonien Singh, for example. A genetically engineered superhuman, Khan was a dictator-turned-space rogue of Indian origin, and while Ricardo Montalban absolutely owned the role, he was Hispanic, not Asian.
Still, at least they didn't give the role to a Caucasian, which is exactly what happened in Star Trek Into Darkness. Ignoring talented actors like Naveen Andrews, Dev Patel, or anyone from Bollywood, director J.J. Abrams picked Benedict Cumberbatch, a white Englishman......

They should go back to the "thinking man's" Trek films, i.e., let characters deal with conflict using brains rather than spectacular action sequences. |

Yes indeed, raly. Those were the Good Old Days of Star Trek, and science fiction in general.
These seem to the days loud audio, fast-paced CGI FX, and stories that aren't too hard to follow so you can describe them quickly to you friends while typing with your thumbs. _________________ ____________
