Have you ever noticed that the Halloween witch seems to be related to the Thanksgiving Pilgrim (actually a Puritan) girl? (Notice the similarity of the hats.)

Guests are coming for the holidays!

Just beware of using alien foods!

Your only real choice is which breast do you want?

I'm afraid in Britain we don't know a great deal about Thanksgiving, except that it happens a day or two before Black Friday... or that used to be the case, most websites seem to have started their Black Friday treats already.

So pumpkins get into the Thanksgiving act, along with naked ladies in impressive black hats? It all seems a tradition well worth maintaining...but here's a rather more modest young lady, and a feathered friend:

Is it me, or does the crown of that hat look retouched? I suspect fowl play.

Maybe the photographer had only a witch's style hat on hand.

Well, I suppose I've seen enough American movies and tv shows to have a fairly good understanding of the holiday, but thanks for the link - a more exuberant version of this:

Very educational, television... I think it was Buffy who/that taught me all about the "Trick or Treat" aspect of Halloween... not to be confused with "Fight or Flight." Wink

Now that we're in post-Thanksgiving mode, I wanted to offer this parting thought from the holiday.

As we all know, diets are often suspended for holiday feasts, especially at Thanksgiving. Then because of the amount of food prepared, there are traditionally plenty of leftovers for a few or several days following. In some cases the suspension-of-diet may spill over until the leftovers are gone, or at least until they become tiresome.

So... Could we not call this extension of the suspended diet, "milking the turkey"?

My experience of roast turkeys is limited to the Christmas period - they do tend to stay around for a few days after that, while hopefully there's also some gravy and stuffing remaining, and the rest of the packs of bacon and sausages.

With all the trimmings, you get some perfectly good meals over the next few days, so I'm not entirely sure where the phrase "Going cold turkey" fits in...
