The idea of panspermia is in part, derived from the idea that the vast interstellar clouds of RNA seeding new planets with life creating coding as they are formed. As we are learning those three letter RNA tags hanging all over the DNA genetic code make a big difference. Each of the eight letters of a gene can have a tag on it. A recent find is that there is a set of master genes found in all life on Earth that control the timing of what genes and tags are expressed. That timing is the difference between a chicken and a velociraptor.
It has occurred to me that millions of tons of organic material was blasted into space from the impact that killed the dinosaurs. Since this a fairly normal occurrence. All life bearing planets are spreading their RNA & DNA across the cosmos. The durability of life at this level is potentially matched, only by the lifespan of red dwarf stars.
My suggestion is that as the universe gets older is that genetic material from multiple life bearing planets will find it's way into the formation of new planets. Leading to more complex lifeforms and potentially higher more complex intelligences.
Ergo, as the universe gets older it gets smarter. |
