THE FIFTY-YEAR MISSION; THE FIRST 25 YEARS
EDWARD GROSS AND MARK A. ALTMAN
Seven interesting items I learned from reading this book.
~ The book starts rocking with a short discussion about Eileen Anita Rexroat, the little-known Mrs. Eileen Roddenberry.
~ Dragnet producer & star Jack Webb also dated Majel Lee Hudec, better known as Majel Barrett.
~ The TV show Have Gun — Will Travel influenced Gene Roddenberry
~ The book confirms that Gene Roddenberry wanted Leonard Nimoy as Spock from the very beginning.
~ Book covers the comic book, comic strips, and early conventions. This is somewhat unusual.
~ The book confirms that it was Gene Roddenberry who leaked the Star Trek II script to the media.
~ Gene Roddenberry had little say in the movie screenplays after Star Trek the Motion Picture.
My only complaint that there was no index and no photographs.
I enjoyed the book.

Sounds like a wonderful reference source, BDT!
I do, however, agree that having no pictures is unfortunate. A book like this one without pictures is like Tarzan without a loincloth: missing something that's badly needed! _________________ ____________

If this book is unauthorized, the lack of photos may be a copyright issue. My recent purchase of Mark Goddard's Lost in Space book includes a notice that "All Lost in Space photographs are Copyright Legend Pictures LLC licensed from Synthesis Entertainment".
Paramount is very protective of Star Trek and an unauthorized publication may not have access to many photos. |

Thanks Brent, that makes perfect sense about why there were no pictures.
I forgot to mention that the book had 550+ pages; that is why I mentioned no index. |
