Alright, here is my list of the top 5 all time stinkers.
The movies that I should have been paid to endure.
Free popcorn and sodas would not have helped.
Movies where I threw my juju bees at the screen.
1. Plan 9 From Outer Space
2. Santa Claus Conquers The Martians
3. Howard The Duck
4. Battlefield Earth
5. Space Station 76 |

Now I feel bad about kinda liking Battlefield Earth. (Pardon me while I slip out and hide my DVD.)
Okay, well, I did mouth off a bit when they started flying the Harriers — and this is after sitting around how many hundreds of years? _________________ ...or not...

Four movies I dislike because they were supposed to something that was good, but they were actually something else that was bad. For example:
Mars Attacks (1996) — Supposed to be funny. It wasn't. Could have been an action-packed version of the legendary trading cards. It wasn't. It just blew a bunch money on a dull comedy that made fun of 1950s sci-fi, playing to an audience that mostly never liked those movies and didn't even get what was being spoofed.
Artificial Intelligence (2001) — Supposed to be a heart-rending drama about a poor weedle wobot boy whose parents didn't wove him anymore, so he wan away from home. Alas, it did not succeed. The kid wasn't convincing as a robot, and the other characters weren't convincing as people — they were just caricatures of people.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) — Supposed to be remake of a beloved science fiction classic. It wasn't a remake, and it wasn't even science fiction. It was a schmaltzy, deadpan delivery of a quazi-philosophical message that had something to do with the importance of being kind to Mother Nature. Wow, we didn't know that, did we?
Iron Sky (2012) — Supposed to a comedy — I think. But it was so devoid of jokes that it could easily deny the allegation and nobody could prove otherwise! This is a movie you sit all the way through with a puzzled look on your face, desperately hoping you'll see the point of the whole thing before the closing credits start creeping up the screen. All they really needed at the end was one word. Sucker! _________________ ____________

There are so many to choose from, it's hard to narrow it down. Again, from Bud's list I would have to agree about all but AI. (Except I don't know what his fifth choice is yet.) Call me a sentimental old fool, but I find it hard to dislike a movie that brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it.

There's a question of the criteria used for what constitutes bad or worst.
The fact is, both PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE and SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS entertain to me no end. I always have a good time watching them. The point can be made that they are bad sci-fi but I think they are terrific entertainment.
Conversely, I have never seen more than 20 minutes of STAR WARS. I must assume it is good sci-fi because so many people like it. I have literally fallen asleep on a number of occassions as I tried (unsucessfully) to make it through the first half hour of the movie. Since it completely failed to hold my interest, I never bothered trying to watch the sequels.
So STAR WARS get my vote for worst sci-fi movie of all time. |

No ... No ... No...
You MUST watch the original Star Wars all the way through so that you will appreciate what is going on in the very worst television special that has ever been created, "The Star Wars Christmas Special"! |

I don't know what happened to my comments on the fifth really, really, really bad movie.
Godzilla - 2014
As I remember, this is what I said:
It was supposed to be the "better American version" of the famous Japanese monster. It wasn't.
It didn't have any likable characters. In fact I can't even remember them. Not one. And story-wise they were useless. What did they do besides worry a lot, run a lot, scream a lot, and die a lot?
It didn't have any ground breaking FX — just better scenes of "Big monster goes ROOOOOOAR!" than the ones with the chubby rubber suit.
It had a sad lack of comedic elements. I mean, damn — a story about an impossibly huge monster that pops out of the ground and swims across the ocean needs to lighten up a little.
Ironically, the 1998 version had everything this one lacked — and the only legitimate criticism against it was that they changed the look of the monster!
Seriously? That was a bad thing?
If anybody ever needed a make-over, it's this guy!

The REAL Godzilla's final appearance.
Zilla (to give the official TOHO name to the American version) made another appearance in GODZILLA: Final Wars (2004). She (remember those eggs) was destroying Sydney, Australia until the Japanese Godzilla came along and kicked her butt!
This was the last official TOHO Godzilla move; the 2014 version was part of a 3-movie deal that Sony Pictures made with them. There is (I believe) 1 more to go.
Every monster that Godzilla fought is in this one (mostly archival footage) including the on again / off again villain-hero Mothra!
It even had Atragon (196x) [original Japanese name of the sub was Gotengo (original form) in the beginning and Gotengo II at the end.

Well, actually, the absolute WORST sci-fi movie has to be KILLERS FROM SPACE.
Regardless, I have fond memories connected to it. I remember going to the theater with my father and being totally enthralled!
