The original is very enjoyable, based on the early days of internet connections and A.I. military systems, so it was new and exciting.

An updated version will be as different as the weather in Alaska and Arizona, with none of the cute elements like Matthew Broderick having fun sitting in his room while he hacks into his high school's computer and changes his grades.

This new version while be even more hi-tech and complex, and older folks like me won't be able to appreciate it like the original, which presented the basic concepts in a way which was simple and understandable.

But perhaps the producers of this remake will make a story that is clear to both the "old guard" and the "next generation".
