I just got this new book from Mark Goddard (Don West of Lost in Space).
Basically it is just reminiscences about his time on the show with an emphasis on his relationships with the cast and crew. The later part of the book contains chapters devoted a number of specific episodes.
The one revelation for me was that he had a strained relationship with Bob May (the guy in the robot suit). Goddard has nothing but kind words for everybody else but admits to issues with Bob May. It appears the problem began as a benign feeling that Bob May was rather full of himself. Goddard says this feeling was shared by the rest of the cast who, while liking May, were somewhat bemused by Bob May's stories and his sense that he was a big star.
However Goddard describes a final breakdown in their relationship which occurred at a fan convention. Goddard observed a fan break into tears after visiting Bob Mays table. Goddard followed the fan to discover what was wrong and found that May had charged her $500.00 to autograph some rather minor memorabilia. Goddard said of May, "I came close to hammering him but I held myself back as a restrained Don West would have done. I never spoke to him again in a friendly manner". |

After I saw your post about Three Years Lost in Space, I requested that my local library purchase the book.
Yesterday, the library sent me an email that they plan to purchase the book.

I read this not too long ago.
Not a bad read, the writing is ok and he glosses
over a lot.
Overall a nice insight into the show. |
