This remarkable 1950s crime drama was recently presented on TCM by the weekly series called Noir Alley, hosted by Eddie Muller.
I DVR the feature every Saturday night at midnight. Eddie's pre-feature and post-feature comments provide a wealth of info about the genre in general and the week's feature in particular.
Eddie's introduction to this one stated that the 72 minute B-movie was packed with enough plot twist to fill a mini-series. And he was dead right!
To summarize the plot, the gorgeous daughter of a murdered judge (played by Joyce MacKenzie) is dissatisfied with the police department's investigation of her father's death, so she begins her own investigation, calmly and intelligently using her remarkable beauty and impressive intelligence to seduce the various suspects and con them into revealing what they know about the crime!
Eddie Muller mentions that the star, Joyce MacKenzie, bears a strong resemblance to Barbara Hale, who played the lovely Della Street on Perry Mason. Eddie's right . . . but frankly Miss Mackenzie is several degrees hotter than Miss Hale, I swooned over the lady throughout the whole movie.
The video below is Eddie's TCM intro and a few clips of the luscious dame! Watch for this on the TCM schedule and set your DVR. It's a movie with more twists and turns then a plate of spaghetti in an Italian restaurant on Brooklyn's East Side! _
