This is puzzling. According the article at the link below, an odd experiment being performed aboard the ISS.
www.gizmag.com/space-whisky/33594/
Here's a paragraph from the article.
________________________________
Sent to the ISS at the invitation of NanoRacks LLC, the purpose of the experiment was to see how zero gravity affects whisky maturation; the process where the terpene and other compounds interact with the charred oak that lines whisky barrels as the spirit ages. As the vials on the ISS orbited the Earth, identical samples back in Scotland acted as a control for comparison.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this seem pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things? They want to find out how "gravity affects whiskey maturation"?
Ummm . . . why? _________________ ____________

Pye-rate says that settlement as whiskey ages becomes a problem after several years of maturation.
I think that's because some congress-kritter just likes his booze and wants to boost his 'vote-ability' by going into space (a la Senator Glenn). _________________ Common Sense ISN'T Common |

Right. Some scientist said, "We need to test the viability of a settlement in space."
And some clueless congressman thought he said sediment -- so he voted to fund this project. _________________ ____________

Excuse me, it's clear from the description that they were making Whisky, not Whiskey!
Since the control brew was from Scotland, clearly they were making Cosmic Scotch!
Any Scotch Whisky enthusiast would know the difference.
I would LOVE to taste Space aged 12 year old single malt! |
