Star Wars Episode IX Has Officially Wrapped

https://variety.com/2019/film/news/star-wars-episode-ix-wrapped-daisy-ridley-john-boyega-1203141334/

The end is nigh!

Filming for Star Wars Episode IX has officially wrapped, bringing an end to a franchise that has spanned more than 40 years and eight films.

Director J. J. Abrams confirmed the news Friday tweeting, “It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Star Wars Episode IX.’ There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast,” he wrote. “I’m forever indebted to you all.”

Production for the film began in August of last year at Pinewood Studios outside of London where a number of new actors joined the Star Wars Episode IX cast, including The Americans star Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.

Everyone’s favorite storm trooper John Boyega also shared his feelings about the film’s conclusion writing, “That’s a wrap on Star Wars Episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn’t be more thankful for. What a process! It really has been a joy to be in these movies surrounded by amazing people. I personally want to thank @jjabramsofficial for giving me a chance to make my dreams come true.”

Star Daisy Ridley was more succinct, signing off with a simple heart: “That’s a wrap on the finale of the Skywalker saga. #IX @jjabramsofficial@starwars @starwarsmovies @johnboyegaand Oscar Isaac.

The news also comes on the heels of Lucasfilm’s recently announced Triple Force Friday event, which is set to welcome a plethora of new merchandise for the franchise. Starting Oct. 4, fans will be able to purchase all new action figures, clothing, collectibles, and books related to Star Wars Episode IX, The Mandalorian – the franchise’s live action jump to television – and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, an upcoming video game.
Star Wars Episode IX is set to hit theaters Dec. 20, m\2019.

Footage Screened, Here’s What Was In It

https://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-episode-9-footage-screened/

We’re only nine months away from the release of J. J. Abrams‘ Star Wars: Episode IX, but Lucasfilm still hasn’t revealed the title or unveiled any official footage to the public. But the first Star Wars: Episode IX footage played this morning to a select group of people during a Disney shareholder presentation, and some descriptions have made their way online. Here’s what the shareholders saw.

A Twitter user who identifies himself as an IT professional named Scott Ladewig claims to have seen the footage in question, and he answered some fan questions about what he saw:

A bit of both. Will share some when I'm indoors. Have to put gloves on

— Scott Ladewig (@Ladewig) March 7, 2019

You can visit his Twitter page to read his word-for-word description, but in the interest of not cluttering up this page with embedded tweets, I’ll just describe what he says.

In an abandoned hangar, there’s a blockade runner. In a starship hangar, an explosion knocks Stormtroopers around. In a bright white room which might be the interior of a Rebel blockade ship or perhaps something akin to Darth Vader’s meditation chamber, Kylo Ren looks down at a box that opens to reveal the charred remains of Vader’s helmet. Notably, Kylo is not wearing his own helmet and he looked “pretty much the same” as he did in The Last Jedi.

In the Millennium Falcon cockpit, Rey, Finn, and Poe share the screen with another character who couldn’t be identified. There’s a brief look at Billy Dee Williams‘ Lando Calrissian, whom we haven’t seen since 1983’s Star Wars Episodwe VI: Return of the Jedi. Finn is seen in the abandoned-looking interior of a ship. Rey holds Chewbacca’s bowcaster, and separately, walks through an alien marketplace.

As far as behind the scenes looks, he could only recall a scene that showed actress Daisy Ridley jumping and doing a somersault high up in the air (attached to wires) with a lightsaber.

When someone asked if there was any footage that included the Knights of Ren, Ladewig responded, “No nothing like that.” (I’m sure you can hear the millions of fanboy voices crying out in disappointment.)

That’s all so far. If we hear more detailed descriptions, we’ll update this article. Star Wars: Episode IX arrives in theaters on December 20, 2019.

Oscar Isaac Confirms The “End Of The Entire Skywalker Saga” In STAR WARS: Episode IX"

It’s now March and we’re now approximately nine months away from STAR WARS: Episode IX. If this was any other film franchise, we’d probably have a title, pictures, and probably a trailer. Instead, this is Lucasfilm and all we know is that J. J. Abrams is directing a film that caps off the trilogy he began with 2015’s STAR WARS: Episode VII The Force Awakens. And according to star Oscar Isaac, we have confirmation that this ninth film in the Skywalker Saga will, in fact, be the end of this particular story.

“It is the end of the entire Skywalker saga,” the actor said on the ‘Today’ Show (via IndieWire). “Nine stories. This is the culmination of the entire thing. What J. J. has done, and the entire Lucasfilm team, is incredibly fulfilling. It’s also special for us because you get to learn a lot more things about these characters.”

If you’re even the smallest fan of “STAR WARS,” then you’re probably familiar with the Skywalker Saga. Beginning with STAR WARS: Episode I The Phantom Menace (storywise, at least), the franchise focused on Anakin Skywalker and his fall from grace. The second trilogy, aka the Original Trilogy, followed that up with the story of Luke Skywalker and his fight with his father, Darth Vader. And now, we have the third trilogy, coming to a close that follows Kylo Ren (a secret Skywalker) and Rey (totally going to be a ret-conned Skywalker, right?).

Speaking of Leia, and actress recently-deceased Carrie Fisher, Isaac also commented on how the film has her spirit flowing through it in multiple ways. “We’ve thought about her so much. Her spirit is there [in the film]. Her daughter, Billie Lourd, came back to play a part. Her spirit was there with us and we’re missing her,” said Isaac.

We’re expected to get a ton more information about STAR WARS: Episode IX, which still doesn’t have an official title, in the coming weeks, as Star Wars Celebration kicks off in about a month. The film hits theaters on December 20.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker

The Trailer Is Finally Here!

https://www.tvguide.com/news/star-wars-episode-ix-the-rise-of-skywalker-trailer/?rss=breakingnews

It feels like it's been forever since Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi hit theaters and launched Porgs straight to the top of our list of favorite things in a galaxy far, far away. To say we've been anxiously awaiting the next film in the latest (and wildly popular) STAR WARS trilogy is a bit of an understatement. But now, the end of the generation-spanning Skywalker saga is actually in sight, as the first teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated STAR WARS Episode IX: — which we now know is titled The Rise of Skywalker and will hit theaters Dec. 20 — was released Friday at Star Wars Celebration 2019.

When we last saw Rey (Daisy Ridley), she had successfully used the Force to rescue General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac), as well as the other Resistance fighters who were trapped by the First Order, after refusing to team up with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) once the two defeated Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) in one hell of a cool action sequence.

The biggest reveal of the short trailer for The Rise of Skywalker is that Emperor Palpatine, the villain played by Ian McDiarmid in the previous two Star Wars trilogies and who we all thought was dead, will be back. You can hear his menacing laugh at the end of the teaser. McDiarmid himself appeared at Star Wars Celebration to goose the crowd after his unexpected return.

According to Abrams, there will be a bit of a time jump between the two films. "The movie doesn't pick up immediately after the last film. Some time has gone by.", the director said during the panel for the film, which is being described as an epic adventure.

Palpatine likely won't be the only person "returning" from the dead. Although Luke Skywalker essentially died after using the Force to take on his nephew at the end of STAR WARS Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill is expected to appear in the new film. The late Carrie Fisher, whose character, Leia, is still alive in the franchise, will also appear through previously unreleased footage shot for STAR WARS Episode II: The Force Awakens.

At Star Wars Celebration, Abrams discussed how the STAR WARS family decided to handle Fisher's death. "It was impossible. There was no way. What are you gonna do? You can't recast that part, and you're not just going to have her disappear." Abrams said. "The idea was what if we could write scenes around her, so she could be in the movie, and we have her performance. Every day it hits me that she's not here, but it's so surreal because we're working with her still. She's in scenes."

Meanwhile, Billy Dee Williams is also returning to the franchise as Lando Calrissian for the first time since 1983's STAR WARS Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Lando is glimpsed in the teaser trailer flying his beloved Millenium Falcon alongside Chewbacca. (The character, and the Falcon's origin story, was a key part of last year's Solo: A Star Wars Story, which starred Donald Glover as the dapper Lando.)

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker will be the final STAR WARS film for the foreseeable future as Disney is shifting its focus to creating content for its new streaming service Disney+, which launches Nov. 12. Expected on the service are The Mandalorian as well as a Rogue One: A STAR WARS Story prequel focused on Diego Luna's Cassian Andor.

First still:

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on Dec. 20, 2019.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker TV Spot: The Knights of Ren and Sith Troopers Finally Appear

https://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-tv-spot/

With less than a month until Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker hits theaters, Disney and Lucasfilm will be releasing new snippets of footage here and there leading up to the release. If you’ve already seen everything you want to, then it might be time to start staying away from the internet for a bit. This new Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker TV spot uses a lot of footage from the final trailer, but it also has new shots, such as a sweeping shot of the Knights of Ren, a Sith Trooper in battle, and plenty of Rey and Kylo Ren.

It’s hard to believe, but this is the first footage we’ve seen of a Sith Trooper in action. Though the new troopers have been all over Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker’s merchandise and promotional material, they weren’t in any of the previous trailer. Perhaps that means they won’t be appearing until much later in the story as part of the climactic battle. They’re Sith Troopers after all, so it stands to reason that they’re working directly for the Emperor himself. Will we see him appearing more in footage soon too? Otherwise, you can see the previous TV spot.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker arrives in theaters on December 20, 2019.
