About Today's Featured Threads
The late Andrew Bogdan (Bogmeister) was an avid Star Trek TOS fan, and he wrote great reviews for almost every episode — all of which are packed with interesting facts. For example, his review of Arena includes this.
~ It's based on a fairly famous short story by sci-fi author Fredric Brown (it first appeared in Astounding Science Fiction Magazine, 1944). An Outer Limits episode Fun and Games is also based on this.
Bogmeister always pointed out both the good and the bad about each episode. For Return of the Archons he said this.
~ This episode does present some deep and sophisticated concepts, quite sophisticated even for this show. However, the drawback was an unexciting narrative, even a drab pace, and a lackluster conclusion.
However, he had glowing praise for A Taste of Armageddon.
~ Speaking of Scotty, he had some of his best scenes of the first season right here. Placed in command of the Enterprise for most of the episode, he gets to shine in his confrontations with Fox and the 'mealy-mouthed' Anan-7 down on the planet.
