Nick Acosta made some great pictures of the original series in widescreen. Check them out at:

What if Classic Star Trek and The Next Generation Were Widescreen?
When Star Trek: The Next Generation was first coming to Blu-ray, some fans wondered why the beloved series was not being remastered in widescreen. The basic answer is because it wasn't designed that way in the first place (but you can hear more on the subject here). But still, one fan has decided to have some fun and give us an idea of what TNG and The Original Series would look like in a more theatrical format. And it's pretty cool"
Nick Acosta, according to Nerdist, originally took frames from Captain Kirk's TOS and "stitched them together in the style of "Cinerama", producing unique yet very familiar takes on the classic show. Take a look:

Interesting project. To get the proper effect you'd have to display the composite images on a curved surface, with the amount of curvature depending on how many degrees of arc are covered.
When Nick Acosta mentions director Robert Wise using a camera technique to keep the foreground and background elements in focus, he's referring to the use of split-diopter shots in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I've always admired shots in movies which featured elements in the foreground in perfect focus, while elements in the background are equally sharp!
Done skillfully, shots like that can be very dramatic. _________________ ____________
