I can't help wishing we could bring back All Sci-Fi's Live Movie Chat!!
Gord and I find the time to do one occasionally, but the days of our regular live chats were wonderful, and I loved them.
Even though we didn't get many folks to show up, it was still fun.
The problem seemed to be that our members didn't realize our weekly live chats were NOT really about watching a movie! They were actually about letting a familiar and beloved movie runs in the background while we all chatted and let the movie occasionally suggest a few comments to add to the conversation.
I was always puzzled by the members who complained that they couldn't concentrate on both the movie and the discussion at the same time!
Good lord, those folks missed the point completely!
Look at it this way, guys. When you make a post on All Sci-Fi about The Day the Earth Stood Still, do you try to WATCH the movie while composing the post? Right?
No. Of course you don't.
So, a movie chat is all about running the movie in the background to give your brain suggestions about things to comment on, and to refresh your memory when someone says, "I love the way Ataira looks in that outfit!"
The whole idea is that YOU'RE looking at the same thing WE'RE looking at when we make statements like that. It has nothing to do with following the story in the movie!
If you don't already know the story by heart, you can't possibly enjoy the movie chat!
And here's another revelation.
What I didn't realize in those days was that few of our members had a set-up as convenient as mine in my living room.
I was foolish to think that this was the norm.
But I'm hoping that in this modern age of technology, some of you folks will find ways to combine a movie experience with a chat experience, the way I have!
After all, everything you see in the picture above is almost ten years old! Surely my ancient equipment can be matched by the newer stuff! _________________ ____________
