The question is misleading.
He was real.
The modern Santa Claus grew out of traditions surrounding the historical Saint Nicholas (a fourth-century Greek bishop and gift-giver of Myra), the British figure of Father Christmas, and the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas (himself also based on Saint Nicholas). Some maintain Santa Claus also absorbed elements of the Germanic god Wodan, who was associated with the pagan midwinter event of Yule and led the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession through the sky. _________________ ____________

Santa Claus is a blend of man and god...Nickolaus and Woden, and as such is a reflection of the Christ. Not to be confused as either man nor god, but a fusion of both and totally spirit. He exists in us at this time of year, but year after year his real message of peace and joy is replaced by our own overwriting concepts of commercialism and doubt.
Just as MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET demonstrated belief is a fragile thing....best found in the young. As we get older we get "too smart" to give into our real feelings.
Ah, well...I still wish all my brothers and sisters a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I HOPE YOU ALL FIND A PLACE OF PEACE AND JOY !! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |
