Mel Brookes also related a story of Sid Caesar pulling a taxi driver out of his auto through the half open window during a dispute over a fare. How much is truth and how much is conjecture is up to the person hearing the story....BUT....There does seem to be a preponderous of evidence toward the aggressiveness of Caesar.

It took me a while to find this beloved episode on YouTube (S02E21), but when I succeeded, I was delighted! Very Happy

Needless to say, I adored this episode from the series when it first aired, because it glorified 1950s sci-fi with an incredibly clever spoof which included many of the classic elements!

The weird music, the alien invaders, the strange ways in which the beings from another world tried to deceive mankind — it's all here in a hysterical episode which starts with Dick Van Dkye gleefully teasing his lovely wife Mary Tyler Moore with lurid descriptions of the frightening events in the movie which HE watched on the late show in their bedroom — but that SHE refused to watch while she hid under the covers of her bed because she was too scared! Shocked

What happens after that is a true tribute to the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Watch it at the link below.

TDVDS remains one the great sitcoms ever created.

Always enjoy viewing on Halloween the hilarious episode "The Ghost of A.Chantz" from September 30,1964.

Rob, Laura, Sally and Buddy drive up to lodge in the mountains to confer with Allan Brady about a new TV show he wants to produce.

Mel Cooley has forgotten to make reservations for the gang, but the lodge owner does have a small cabin they can stay at that is unoccupied...because its haunted!

Great info Krel, thank you.

"My Favorite Year" is a hilarious film from 1982 which deals with the working-behind-the-scenes of a live comedy variety television show from the 50's era.

The lead of that show is King Kaiser who is clearly based upon Sid Caesar. The guest on Comedy Cavalcade that week is a former big screen swashbuckler Alan Swan who is based on Errol Flynn.

If you have not seen this movie I highly recommend you check it out.

I love this movie Pow, and the King Kaiser character is based, at least partly on Sid Caesar. The bit where he instructs his secretary to buy a gift for someone he went off on was something that Sid Caesar would do after he exploded on someone.

TDVDS did an episode where Rob saw a flying saucer. The flying saucer prop still exists. It was sold at auction a few years ago.

David.

This isn't the most exciting video we've ever seen, but it presents some interesting facts about this great series.

Be advised that the narrator misprounces the name "Petrie" throughout the video. It's Pet-ree, dammit . . . not Pee-tree! Rolling Eyes

How Mary Tyler Moore caused the CENSORS PROBLEMS as LAURA PETRIE on THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW!
