If you have videos that are supposed to be widescreen but are shown in TV format, or the other way round, here's one way of fixing it:
Get a copy of MKVToolNix GUI. It stores videos in MKV containers which can still be viewed in all sorts of devices.
Load the video in the program. You'll see the video file in the top left window and its contents (video, audio, and subtitle tracks) in the window below it.
Click the video track. The properties window on the right will be activated. On that window, take a look at the set aspect ratio and display width/height option, and then select one of the drop-down options (usually, 4/3 is a TV format and 16/9 is for widescreen, but there are more to choose from).
Click the "start multiplexing" button and the program will quickly make an MKV file. If there's a file with the same name, it will append (1) or something like that to the new video and won't overwrite the original.
Play the video and see if the aspect ratio looks right. (The shape of characters' heads look normal.) If not, try another aspect ratio and see what happens. |
