Science Fiction television series have certainly come a long way since the days of shows like the ones below.

Star Trek: Discovery, for example, would have caused a variety of emotional reactions. Audiences would have been astounded by the special effects, offended by some of the language, amazed by the depth of the stories, and shocked by some of the sexual elements.
