Recording artists, industry leaders and celebrities of every stripe poured on the love for Little Richard, the trailblazing American rocker who died Saturday at the age of 87. On social media, admirers called the star, born Richard Penniman in Macon, Ga., an unforgettable artist and a generous mentor and friend.
I met Rev. Richard Penniman back in the early 80's when he set up a tent revival opposite the store I was managing in Youngstown OH. He was very charismatic and charming. This was a period between his early music and later comebacks. Miss his "Tutti Fruity". _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

Although I'm not a fan of Little Richard, but I do adore Nick Rivers, the rock star from Top Secret who preformed the definitive version of Tooty Fruity!
Enjoy!_

Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Fats Domino and the great Doo Wop artists of the mid fifties lit up the world with genuine rock and roll lightning, much of which has never been bettered, even after a half century of rock evolution.
I believe Lewis is still alive, and probably rocking his heart out somewhere in the world today.
Fortunately, we can still enjoy their performances on that Gold Standard of film, music and video, YouTube.
Farewell, Mr. Penniman. And thanx for it all. _________________ What Is Essential Is Invisible |
