While exploring the "rockets from the fifties" I was struck by the popular depiction of the spacesuits of the era!
There must have been a run on fish bowls! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

In the late 1940s through the 1950s spacesuits were depicted this way:
Tom Corbet, Space Cadet had these:
In 1947 this one was tested by the USN:
The 1955 suit supposedly made for Forbidden Planet looked liked this:
But the odds-on favorite was more like this cartoon:

That last suit looks like an early Apollo suit without it's covering. It also looks like that is where Mattel got it's inspiration for Major Matt Mason's suit.
