I was reading about the game mechanics, and all the while I thought it was subscription-based. Now, as I understand it, you buy a starter pack ($45 or so) which comes with a ship, several months of insurance (which you file in case your ship is destroyed and want a replacement), and some money (to buy ships, probably weapons and others). After that, you can buy more if you want to in the game store.

Very true Ralfi, but the demo vids on Youtube are so darn awesome you can get hours of enjoyment without spending a penny!
