|
|
Try the Firefox browser and the ff. addons:
Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express - adds a download button below Youtube videos
YouTube Video and Audio Downloader (Dev Edt.) - alternative Youtube video and audio downloader
Video Downloader Pro - for other video sites
Video DownloadHelper - for other video sites
Also, try the Waterfox browser with the ff. addons in case the ones above don't work:
Flashgot - captures various streaming media
DownThemAll - downloads what's captured by Flashgot
Jdownloader can download videos from various sites, including those that can't be handled by the addons mentioned above, such as ok.ru.
Finally, to find videos using Google, try clicking on the "videos" menu, then "tools," and select the longest duration and probably "high quality." |

Here are two more:
WinX Youtube Downloader (fast, can DL 1080p or better and playlists, but subtitles manually selected)
Youtube-DLG (same, but subtitles in VTT format)
Also, JDownloader can DL from ok.ru. |

For now, I use the ff.
- for 720p or lower with no subtitles, Youtube Video and Audio Downloader for Firefox (click and download) or Youtube-DLG (which downloads faster, but I have to run it and paste the link)
- for 1080p or higher with no subtitles, Youtube-DLG (fast download speed, but the subtitles are in VTT format); for those with subtitles, Jdownloader (download speed might be slower, but subtitles are in SRT format)
- for playlists with no subtitles, and the best available video quality, Youtube-DLG; for those with subtitles, Jdownloader
Finally, I did the ff. configurations for each:
Youtube Video and Audio Downloader - I went to settings and installed the parts in the FFmpeg integration so that the addon can download the video and audio tracks of the video and then merge them;
Jdownloader - I went to settings, plugins, select "youtube.com", and for "allowed media types" selected subtitles and video, for "filetype" mp4 and srt, and for "3D/360" 2D only so that I got only the video files and any subtitles;
Youtube-DLG - I wanted to use the AAC audio codec instead of Opus, so I added following line in the "extra" tab of the options window:
$ youtube-dl -f "bestvideo[ext=mp4]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best" |

For sites other than Youtube, I've used the ff.
- Video Downloader Pro (Firefox addon)
- Jdownloader (Vimeo, Dailymotion, OK RU) |

I forgot to add that when you use XDM, you may choose to have the file converted to a format that's compatible with your device. |
