Loved this movie!
I first saw it on late night TV and found Gwen Verdon 's Lola just a little bit "naughty". |

This was one of the films that Channel 9 in Los Angeles (formerly KHJ-TV, now KCAL) used to run regularly in their Million Dollar Movie slot -- the same movie all week, Monday through Friday evenings, with two matinee showings on Saturday and one on Sunday! That's how I was able to memorize all the songs and huge chunks of dialogue before the age of home video.

Gwen Verdon was nothing short of amazing. Just try finding someone with that kind of talent and energy nowadays.
Unfortunately, one of the songs from the original stage show, "The Game," was a bit too naughty for the movies back then. It didn't make it into the film.
One little detail that caught my attention: During the first song, "Six Months Out of Every Year," the screen splits into multiple images showing several married couples in which the wives are baseball widows. I only recently noticed that they include a Japanese couple and a black couple -- rather progressive for 1958.
