All I can say is...why? Were people really crying out for another remake of this thing? _________________ "Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?" |

You've got a good point, Tim. The 1993 remake by HBO was good in most respects, and it even gave us a terrific flying saucer!
But I didn't care for the ending, in which the cheating husband, Harry, is a captive of the giant alien women, along two other men who are being conditioned to change the behavior towards women.
Okay, so its topical and socially relevant. But I like my idea for the ending better. It goes like this.
The saucer returns, and the alien is a giant man— as he was in the original. But instead of being bald and middle-age. he's young and handsome. He saves Nancy from being fired on by the local police, then her takes aboard his ship and they fly off together.
In other words, he wanted a mate and he liked Nancy looks, but he had to adjust her size so they would be compatible.
We could add an extra twist by having several other mistreated wives break free from the onlookers and rush towards the alien and Nancy as they ascend the stairs below the ship. The ladies beg to be taken along too, and the alien looks up a several other aliens just inside the hatch at the top of the stairs. They're also young and handsome.
The pair of giant male aliens smile down at the eager ladies and beacon them to come on up. The ship ascends into the night sky, and the abusive husbands are shown looking shocked and deject.
The End
But if Tim Burton directs this new remake, I'm sure it will suck. I haven't seen a Tim Burton movie yet I thought was any good. _________________ ____________

That is a cool saucer, Bruce!
Oh, yeah, I'm positive it'll be another of the "all men are pigs" films that are all the rage right now, but I don't see a big audience for this. Maybe "the youngs" will love it since they love all things weird, even if the stuff isn't very good.
In a related incident, I stumbled upon several "Attack of the 50 Foot"-type ultra trashy movies on Tubi. Amazing what gets funded. _________________ "Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?" |

Brother, you are preachin' to the choir!
As far as what Tim Burton will do with the remake, I'm sure it will be as elaborately dim-witted as Mars Attacks — although I will confess that it had a few good moments. _________________ ____________

That was exactly my thinking about this remake. I mean, why on earth would anyone want to remake this movie?? _________________ "You look like a pooped out pinwheel."

Well now, to be fair, guys, the original ain't exactly great, so there's certainly room fpr improvement.
With that in mind, the saucer is gorgeous, the other fX are good, and the Daniel Baldwin character is taken right out of the original film (a cheating husband).
The bathing scene in the swimming pool is amusing.
And the ending with the giant alien women is similar to the ending I proposed; the giant male alien comes back and elopes with the giant Allison Hayes, which was his plan all along!
I've always been bothered by the fact that no reason is given in the original for why Allison grew larger. Bad story telling annoys me. _________________ ____________

I have to agree with you about bad story-telling, Bud, and it too drives me right out of my mind. _________________ "You look like a pooped out pinwheel."
