M. Night Shyamalan made The Sixth Sense (1999) and amazed us with a thought provoking horror story with hellavu twist ending.
Then he made Unbreakable (2000) and gave us new kind of superhero story.
Signs (2002) was a great science fiction story . . . that was also pretty damn scary.
But then came The Village (2004) and I felt about as disappointed as a teenage girl waiting for Elvis to appear on stage and getting Liberace instead!
Nothing that Shyamalan has done since Signs has impressed me very much, but I was hopeful about Glass . . . until I threw spoilers to the wind and read the Wikipedia synopsis and the critics' reviews. Frankly I wasn't expected much, because I read the synopsis for Split first, it sounded like a hot mess (as they say.)
So, I wasn't surprised when the sequel to Split impressed the critics even less.
I realize I'm judging both films sight-unseen, but in view of the way Shyamalan's films have disappointed me in the last seventeen years, I just can't work up any enthusiasm for this one.
Still, I'm obviously inviting any dissenting opinions by folks who have actually seen it and want set me straight. It's one of those cases where I'd really rather be wrong.
