"The Boy Who Could Fly" was written and directed by Nick Castle.

It was produced by Lorimer Productions and released by 20th Century Fox on August 15, 1986.

Synopsis } Fourteen-year old Amelia "Milly" Michaelson has recently moved into a new suburban home with her mom Charlene and younger brother Louis.

It is shortly after her dad has passed away and things are looking tough for the family.

Milly is starting at a new school and dealing with the challenges of adjusting to the environment.

Charlene has been demoted at work due to her inability to master a computer.

Louis & his dog are plagued by neighborhood bullies.

Milly meets her young next-door neighbor Eric Gibb who is autistic and never speaks.

Eric develops a rapport with Milly over time.

But she begins to suspect that there is something mysterious going on with Eric.

Although this was not a Walt Disney film, it really could have been.

It has characters you root for as they are all facing their individual challenges and have all suffered trauma.

The happy ending is both thrilling and life affirming.

A feel good movie for all.

I watched this movie today from a Netflix disc, and I'm happy to report that it lives up to Mike's high opinion in this thread's initial post.

Thanks, Mike! Very Happy

By the way, IMDB has an interesting trivia item.

~ In one scene, Louis (Fred Savage) plays the "Last Starfighter" video game from The Last Starfighter (1984), which was also directed by Nick Castle.

I'm glad Mr. Castle slipped in this plug for his other movie, since a sequel for The Last Starfighter is finally in the works. Very Happy

I'm not sure I'd have watched this movie if I hadn't read Mike's recommendation. It assured me that the story didn't end with the viewer never knowing if Jay Underwood could actually fly . . . or if he was just delusional. Sad

I'm a big fan of people who can fly, like Superman and Peter Pan. Wink
