Sci-Fi takes a vacation!
Instead we have adventure, horror, and film noir — just for a change of pace.
~ See Fay Ray run from something other than Kong . . . even though she's on Skull Island!
~ Watch the Frankenstein monster give a piano concert!
~ Witness the beautiful Joyce MacKenzie do her impression of Della Street doing what Perry Mason usually does — solve a crime better than the police do!
It's Mix-and-Match Day on All Sci-Fi. ________________________________________________
The Most Dangerous Game (1932)
Opening Statement: A terrific short story was turned in great movie!
During the filming of King Kong , Irving Pichel and Ernest B. Schoedsack decided to use the Skull Island jungles to make this hair raising adventure, and brought along Robert Armstrong, Fay Wray and Noble Johnson as well.
Joel McCrea is the brave hero who takes on sadistic Leslie Banks, who loves to treat the guest on his island estate to a little hunting.
Unfortunately, the guests are the "game" he hunts.
The Walking Dead (1936)
Opening Statement: I DVRed this movie from TCM recently, and I was very impressed!
This Michael Curtiz film does some remarkable things with the familiar premise about a resurrected man seeking revenge against his killers.
In the clip below, we see Edmund Gwenn introducing the revived subject of his experiment to a group of high society folks, so that Karloff can demonstrate that he's not only back from dead but still a skilled concert pianist as well!
Desination Murder (1950)
Opening Statement: This remarkable 1950s crime drama was recently presented on TCM by the weekly series called Noir Alley, hosted by Eddie Muller.
I DVR the feature every Saturday night at midnight. Eddie's pre-feature and post-feature comments provide a wealth of info about the genre in general and the week's feature in particular.
Eddie's introduction to this one stated that the 72 minute B-movie was packed with enough plot twist to fill a mini-series. And he was dead right! _________________ ____________
