I'm sure Mr. Cowper would approve of today's three movies. After all, what poet worth his salt doesn't love humongous spiders, god-like aliens, and a post-apocalyptic world with radioactive regions and giant scorpions?

The Giant Spider Invasion (1975)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ There was supposed to be a dramatic shot of the giant spider crushing the house by having the spider dropped from a crane onto it while a bulldozer chained to the back of the house would pull away.

However, when the shot was filmed, the spider's legs all went straight up into the air. The crew inside working it's arms were nearly killed when broken wood from the demolished house went through the spider, coming close to impaling them.

2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984)

Opening Statement: IMDB has a butt-load of interesting trivia items for this production. Buckle up, this will take a while to get through. Very Happy

~ The one part of the Discovery which the audience never sees in this movie is the rotating centrifuge where Dave Bowman and Frank Poole lived during 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). This is since the producers of this movie found the original set too expensive to reproduce (the original from the first movie had been destroyed), thus Dr. Heywood Floyd and his companions never seem to need to enter this area of the ship.

Damnation Alley (1977)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ This was 20th Century-Fox's big-budget science-fiction project in 1976. Hoping it would be a success, the studio made an effort to focus all the marketing on this film. At the same time, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) was a little-publicized modest film, and the studio was convinced that it would fail. Ironically, Damnation Alley bombed while Star Wars became the bigger hit.
