A fine thread by Pow in the Movies in Other Genres forum, a great discussion about a popular TV series, and a sequel to a remake of a classic 50s sci-fi.
All Sci-Fi has got it all.

The Great Man (1956)
Opening Statement: Years ago my older Sister game me a book of Hollywood quotes. A hated figure in Hollywood died and had an enormous funeral. A man said to Red Skelton that he couldn't understand it. The deceased was one of the most hated men in Hollywood, but hundreds of people were were attending his funeral.
Red Skelton replied that it just goes to prove the old saying. If you give the people what they want, they will come in droves. ~ David.
Mission: Impossible (1966 - 1973)
Opening Statement: Red West became good friends with Robert Conrad, and appeared in many of his later projects.
Robert Conrad had a black belt in Karate, and used it in the show. Dick Cangey convinced him that boxing would be a better choice for the time period. He convinced RC by fighting off several assailants from three directions simultaneously. RC became such a convert that the studio built a boxing ring for him, so that he could practice between takes. ~ David
The Fly II (1989)
Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.
~ The Telepod props from The Fly (1986) were destroyed after filming was completed and had to be rebuilt.
Note from me: Apparently the studio had no plans to create a sequel, so they didn't bother to store the pods and save the expense of recreating them. _________________ ____________
