Two movies that predict the future and one that spoofs the past!

The variety and the quality of these moves are both big pluses. I'm a bit surprised that I don't own any of them, but I do recommend all three.

The one that involves super models was wise to cast Miss Susan Dey.

Matinee (1993)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ For "Mant," the movie-within-the-movie, Joe Dante cast actors who had actually appeared in 1950s-era science fiction movies. These included Kevin McCarthy, Robert Cornthwaite, and William Schallert.

Note from me: Ted Newsome did the same thing — but in an even bigger way — with his clever fan-film spoof, The Naked Monster.

Bicentennial Man (1999)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ When Andrew regales the family with jokes, the jokes themselves were unscripted. Robin Williams ad-libbed all of the jokes. The other actors' reactions to the jokes and their laughter are real.

Note from me: Robin Williams did need scripted jokes. They flowed from his comic soul . . .

Looker (1981)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ Michael Crichton managed to predict a future technology, CGI, with this film but put to more sinister applications. Crichton was always a skeptic about new technologies. CGI would later bring dinosaurs to life in one of his most successful stories, Jurassic Park (1993).

Note from me: It's understandable that Crichton was unenthusiastic about CGI before it became so good it couldn't even be spotted as CGI by the audience.
