Evolution (2001) is a brilliant comedy sci-fi that pays tribute toi Ray Harryhausen's movies and the Universal sci-fi like It Came from Outer Space.

I've never understood why it isn't held in high regard by fans of classic science fiction. I've loved this movies from the first time I saw it in 2001 until today! Confused

Ah well, I guess some folks don't recognize greatness when they see it. Rolling Eyes

Charade (1963)

Opening Statement: ~ Due to the suspense, the presence of Cary Grant, the structure of the screenplay, and the frequent plot twists, many people believe this was a Sir Alfred Hitchcock film. Hitchcock was not involved in the making of the film at all. This confusion has prompted fans of the film to call it "the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never made."

Note from me: As brilliant as he was, Hitchcock's movies ran both hot and cold. This is just my opinion, but included among the brilliant movies like Rear Window are disappointments like Family Plot. In spite of chilling horror stories like Psycho, there are also misguided attempts at comedy like The Trouble with Harry.

That said, if Charade had been a Hitchcock film, it would have ranked a bit below To Catch a Thief but above Torn Curtain. But like I said, that's just me.

Jason and the Argonauts (1963)

Opening Statement: ~ It took Ray Harryhausen four months to produce the skeleton scene, which runs, at most, three minutes.

Note from me: Impressive. And bear in mind that some of the shots in the scene don't even include animation . . . although there aren't many.

Evolution (2001)

Opening Statement: ~ During the lengthy shooting in Page, Arizona, Dan Aykroyd entertained the local folk by carding guests at a bar, unofficially greeting people at Wal-Mart, and visiting locals for a cup of coffee in their homes.

Note from me: I spent a week in Page back in 2000 while visiting my mother in St. George, Utah.

Buy a strange coincidence, I saw Evolution at a local theater in St. George, but that was before the visit to Page. So, I didn't recognize the two when I saw the movie, nor did I realize I was in the city where the movie was filmed when my mother and I spent a week there a few weeks later!

In 2005, I bought the DVD of Evolution and realized that I'd spent a week at the film's shooting location, and I'd actually taken pictures of places which appear in the movie!

In fact, the area where the "meteor hole" was created is actually a "scenic spot" just a few hundred yards off the road leading to Page, overlooking Lake Powell!
