I've loved The Colossus of New York since I first saw it when I was ten years old, so I interested in the IMDB said about the construction of the suit.
The info about the two horror films is interesting as well.

The Colossus of New York (1958)
Opening Statement: ~ The Colossus costume was eight feet tall, weighed 160 pounds and was made from burlap, plastic, rubber and fine chicken wire. Inside, there were batteries, cables, air tanks and oxygen tubes.
_______________
Note from me: I've always been curious about the details of this amazing suit's construction!
The Flesh Eaters (1964)
Opening Statement: ~ The producers used a very William Castle-like exploitation gimmick; plastic packets of "instant blood" were given out to each patron as they entered the theater in case they were attacked by flesh eaters.
Note from me: Boy, I miss the good old days, when theaters electrified the seats or suspended skeletons on wires that flew over the audience's heads!
Life Returns (1935)
Opening Statement: ~ Uses footage from actual University of Southern California experiment in which scientists claimed they brought a dead dog back to life. Robert E. Cornish, playing himself in the film, was one of the scientists involved.
Note from me: Modern medicine can resuscitate patients who are "clinically dead" and bring them back to life if the person hasn't sustained significant brain damage — in which case they are pronounced "legally dead".
What Dr. Robert E. Cornish was doing, according this article was nothing more than reviving brain-dead dogs with methods that have been greatly approved today.
