Frankenstein Cures the Wolf Man . . . with Dr. Jekyll's Help!

The Son of Kong gets a facelift!

The Island of Lost Souls Gets a Second Chance!

It's "Reimagine Classic Movies Day" on All Sci-Fi!

Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943)

Opening Statement: Hey, I think you're onto something there. Dr. Jekyll Cures the Wolf Man!

Dr. Jekyll develops a formula that cures himself, removing the evil Mr. Hyde and making him into a downright saintly guy. He persuades Talbot to let him try the formula as a cure for the evil of lycanthropy.

And it works! Sort of . . .

It turns Larry into a downright saintly werewolf who wouldn't harm a fly! Very Happy

I love the idea of the kindly Larry Talbot as a permanent werewolf who desperately wants to convince people that he's no longer dangerous. Perhaps he'd seek out the elderly gypsy woman, Maleva, and shows her that he's a "changed man" — so to speak. She convinces the other gypsys that Talbot deserves their help, and they agree to hide him.

Son of Kong (1933)

Let's Create a Sequel!

~ A Question for the Members: If RKO had been smart enough to appreciate both the talent of Willis O'Brien and the earning potential of a worthy sequel to King Kong, what might they have done with the "Son of Kong" concept?

~ Here's what I came up with.: What if Carl Denham realized that he was sitting on a gold mine?

The movie presents Carl Denham as being broke and hiding from his creditors in New York, because he's being sued for the damages caused by Kong.

Well, that perfectly understandable — but it sure ain't an exciting idea. Rolling Eyes

However, Denham doesn't seem to realize that he possesses priceless information that can make him fabulously wealthy!

He and Captain Englehorn know the location of an uncharted island which contains a plethora of prehistoric animals which the global scientific community would pay a fortune to study!
Shocked

Denham originally went to Skull Island to make a spectacular motion picture which featured wildlife, like the ones he was famous for. What he found on the island would indeed be the subject of a colossal movie he could exhibit all over the world and become fabulously wealthy.

Island of Lost Souls (1932)

Let's Create a Sequel!

~ A Question for the Members: Would all the "manimal" slowly revert to their original or near-original forms? Or would they retain their altered conditions and learn to deal with their ungodly physicality?

~ Here's what I came up with.: The Wikipedia summary of H.G. Wells' novel is very different from the movie. The main character live the island for months with the "Beast Folk", and during that time they do in fact slowly revert to some degree.

The 1898 novel states that the animals are changed by "vivisection" — which wouldn't seem to explain how animals could be changed in so drastic a manner, especially the raising of their intelligence.

__________

However, here in the 21st century we know that the story is suggesting genetic modification, not just some kind of "plastic surgery" on animals to make them look human.

So, we should grant Wells some leeway and accept the results he describes as being accomplished by scientific methods Wells didn't try to explain to his readers, even if he knew about the research in that area himself.

Having said that, if the Beast Folk were created by advanced gene slicing (and some method of accelerating the change in the subjects), they might not actually revert to the animal state as time goes by.

In fact, the final transformation in some of the subjects might take several more years! If that were true, the island might end up with a group of very human-looking Beast Folk who retain very few characteristics of their original form.
