Custer offers some thoughts about a comedy/musical/swashbuckler TV series, a strang doctor, and a movie from the Rat Pack era.

Gee, I miss the days when mean were men and women adored us for it! (Or so we thought . . . ) Sad

In Like Flint (1967)

We didn't see much of JFK, and only saw Frank Sinatra, singing in the casino, from behind, but the episode did seem to capture the time pretty well... even if it was a bit strange not to have a major historical event being messed about with. One wonders if, after setting up the first two episodes, the writers were given the go-ahead for a whole series, and then decided that they needed to add a new character, Anthony, a trusted co-worker on the time machine project who'd been abducted by Flynn... or was he on Flynn's side all along?

Hmm, Flint, Flynn? I assume the original movie title was based on the amorous-adventure reputation of ol' Errol, as in "In like Flynn"...

In the movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Wikipedia comments, the main character Austin Powers (while being on honeymoon with his new wife Vanessa Kensington) switches on the TV to a scene from In Like Flint. He mentions to Vanessa that it is his favourite movie. The phone in Austin's car has the same ringtone (but reversed) as the Z.O.W.I.E. telephone in the beginning of this film

Galavant (ABC 2015 - 2016)

[size=20]Galavant has now been cancelled, so no third season for us - still, we got a fine second season, up from eight to ten episodes. It has been interesting to see some, for Britain, well-known faces crop up as guest stars: Hugh Bonneville, Rutger Hauer, Robert Lindsay, Michael Brandon, Al Yankovic, Ricky Gervais, Anthony Head, Kylie Minogue, Simon Williams, Simon Callow, Sheridan Smith, Greg Wise, Reece Shearsmith, and Matt Lucas. Not all of them get to sing! Vinnie Jones does get to sing, though - not a talent he often delights us with. That's not him in the middle of this shot, though - he's in the bottom right corner.

Doctor Strange (2016)

I don't know why the USA is getting the movie later than other places - surely having it available for the Halloween season makes sense?

I watched the 3D version on Thursday, since its timing was convenient at our local cineplex, and enjoyed it - though I'm not sure what Stan Lee, in his cameo, found so hilarious, as there wasn't really time to see the title of the booklet he was reading. I should mention that there are the usual pair of extra final scenes, one after the main credits with the doctor having a cosy chat with a familiar face, who is enjoying the way his mug of beer keeps refilling himself (so maybe Doctor Strange will turn up in the next scheduled Marvel movie?)... and at the very end, a confrontation between Mordo and a relatively minor character from the tale.

Both newspaper reviews I've seen gave it 4 stars out of 5, and I'd go along with that. The Inception-style battles where gravity and the city twists around are great, and while things do necessarily take a little while to get rolling, after that all is swift and sure. It seems that the Eye of Agamotto is an Infinity Gem, by the way... Surprised
