No Academy Award was given out for Best Special Effects for 1973.
Some 1973 Movies: Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
Charley and the Angel.
The Exorcist.
Godzilla vs Megalon.
The Legend of Hell House.
Live and Let Die.
Lost Horizon (Musical/remake.)
The Neptune factor.
Sleeper.
Soylent green.
Westworld.
So the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences must not have considered any of these films, or any others for 1973, worthy of being nominated for FX. |

Of all those mentioned above, it is Westworld that amazes me was never given an award for SFX.
It was truly groundbreaking for its time. Not that the others were slouched, but Westworld was just over the top fantastic.
